Construction Director

About us: Exus Management Partners is a global asset manager for renewable energy projects (wind, solar, and hydro). We advise investors on the technical, operational, financial, and development aspects of wind and solar projects. Exus North America is a rapidly-growing company in downtown Pittsburgh; we prefer the employee to be based in Pittsburgh, but this is somewhat negotiable. Frequent travel will be required to site locations.

Exus North America is seeking a Senior Director of Construction (10+ years’ of experience) to direct the construction and re-powering of renewable energy assets across the US and Canada.

Summary: The Senior Director of Construction, in conjunction with the Site Construction manager, has primary responsibility for the initial set up of protocols on new wind/solar energy projects moving into project procurement and construction, staffing the projects and follow through on the complete construction management and execution of the projects.

The core responsibility of this position includes working on a regular basis with the Development and M&A departments as the projects in the pipeline advance to the pre-construction stage. As projects enter the construction stage, the Senior Director of Construction has responsibility to oversee the Request For Proposal (RFP) process for construction services including BOP/EPC contracts and assists in the procurement of the wind turbine generators for wind projects , solar panels, inverters, racking system for Solar plants. Further, as required, assists in the evaluation of potential acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire construction department
  • Pre-Acquisition
  • Work with M&A and Development departments to evaluate potential opportunities
  • Assist in estimation of EPC and full BOP costs of potential opportunities
  • Conduct site visit to analyze the condition for construction and identification of any challenges, including soil condition, civil challenges, any potential delivery issues, identifying construction and laydown yards
  • If EPC/ESA (Equipment Supply Agreement) contracts are already executed for the potential acquisition, evaluate the completeness of the scope, and identify any potential gaps/issues
  • Post-Acquisition
  • Aid in preparation of the Construction Management Contract with the client, including scope, staffing and costs.
  • Aid in EPC/BOP and ESA contract negotiation of the construction project, including evaluating for completeness and any gaps that meet the risk profiles for the projects and provide team with the anticipated costs.
  • Management of the Construction Staff on Site(s), including
  • Recruiting, interviewing, hiring and evaluation of the needed staff
  • If needed, management contract with outside agency for temporary staff needed on site for any project.
  • Assist in the development of the CAPEX for the client.
  • Responsible for optimizing costs for the project to the client, and construction management for Exus
  • Set up the management protocols for construction projects with the assistance of Site construction team
  • Construction Period
  • Ensure, with the help of site construction manager, that all the construction activity are performed with proper industry safety standards
  • Oversee and achieve a smooth execution of the project
  • Ensure that site construction team continually execute the scope of work that Exus and the owner of the project are responsible for.
  • Generate, with assistance of site construction manager, monthly construction reports based on Exus templates that meet the client and lender requirements
  • Hold weekly calls with clients for updates.
  • Review PODs for all projects, and work with site managers to address any concerns quickly
  • Track and report on any delivery/commissioning schedule by OEMs. Calculate and track any LDs with proper documented evidence as per the Equipment supply agreement.
  • Track and report on schedules of the EPC, and track any LDs with proper documented evidence as per the EPC or BOP agreements.
  • Work with EPC provider or OEM to resolve any issues that come up.
  • Aid in resolving dispute between the EPC and OEMs
  • Review any change orders related to the project to ensure the validity and the need for the project. This includes providing proper documented evidence for disputes.
  • Responsible to ensure that all contractual notices are given, both to vendors and contractors, in accordance with the contracts that are executed
  • Responsible for the complete close out of the construction contracts up through and including the final documentation and payments.
  • Perform evaluations of the effectiveness and performance of Manager of Construction, Site Managers, construction support personnel, BOP contractors, WTG manufacturers and miscellaneous vendors.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Project Management
  • 10+ years’ of experience in renewable construction preferred
  • Related Wind and Solar experience a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently
